Congratulations to Neil Barrall and Sam Diamond for completing the London to Surrey 46 mile Prudential Ride London. Their target to raise £1000 for Cyclists Fighting Cancer and the final tally is £1155 after receiving very generous donations from family, friends, colleagues and partner businesses.
Having clocked up 160+ miles in training over the past few months, team Telecoms World (Also sponsored by @orpingtonconnected) set off with thousands of eager cyclists at 9:30am on Sunday 30th July. The wave of riders lead by Sir Chris Hoy and Nicola Adams took the amazing route from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park through the Tower of London, Chiswick, Molesey, Thames Ditton, Kingston, Wimbledon, Putney and finally arriving at The Mall.
With spectators out in full force, the morning cycle was a true spectacle and the traffic free roads were lined with riders from across the country. After a quick start the first stop was made at mile 17 for a drink top up, both Neil and Sam excited to tackle Richmond Park and head out to Surrey with a sub 4 hour finish in mind. The miles were quickly clocked up and with all support from charity crowds and the public, the climb to Wimbledon Village had arrived. Carrying tired legs, Neil and Sam successfully pushed through the pain barrier and were on a downhill route into London to the finish line.
The sub 4 hour target was well and truly beaten, with a cycling duration of just 3 hours 6 minutes. Next years target is sub 3 hours so watch this space! A huge thank you for our charity sponsors, Orpington Connected, Cyclists Fighting Cancer and to the spectators across the streets of London and Surrey for their spirit and encouragement.
